A 25-year-old Newark man was sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison on Thursday, Sept. 5 after he pleaded guilty to firing a gun during an armed robbery of an Essex County store in 2021, authorities said. A 50-year-old East Orange man was sentenced to nearly 12 years in prison on Thursday, Sept. 5 after pleading guilty to distributing fentanyl, cocaine and possessing firearms, authorities said. Person Critical After Newark Shooting: Prosecutor
A person is critical condition after a shooting in Newark on the early morning of Saturday Aug. 10, authorities said. The person was shot in the head on the 800 block of Elizabeth Avenue at around 1:50 a.m., the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are in critical condition, authorities said. The shooting remains under investigation, authorities said.

A 44-year-old East Orange drug trafficker was sentenced to more than 36 years in prison on Tuesday, Aug. 1, for his role in facilitating three murders to further his narcotics enterprise, authorities said. Alexander Chong of Belleville was killed when he struck the rear of a vehicle stopped at a red light, Edison police said.
