On Friday, Jan. 19, at 11:10 a.m., a woman reported her vehicle was broken into while parked at the 200 block of Springfield Ave, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.

The front passenger side window was broken and her purse, containing $60, two credit cards and a debit card were stolen, Fragé said. The victim's debit card was later used at two stores before being declined by a third vendor, Fragé said.

Upon investigating, police identified Eddie Price as the suspect and observed him inside a stolen Honda Odyssey in Irvington on Monday, Jan. 29 around noon, Fragé said.

Price fled the scene, initiating a pursuit onto the Garden State Parkway North, Fragé said. The suspect proceeded to put the vehicle into reverse, crashing into the Newark police vehicle, Fragé said. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot across the parkway, Fragé said.

A police detective was transported to University Hospital after complaining of pain, Fragé said. The incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.
