Jersey City Man Dead In I-78 Bridgewater Crash A Jersey City man died in an overnight crash on Route 78 in Bridgewater early Tuesday morning. Davis M. Gwaro was heading east when he struck the left metal guardrail, then the right one around 1:05 a.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said.  He then struck a metal fence and a tree, and was subsequently pronounced dead, Marchan said. The crash remains under investigation.

1 Dead In Route 78 SUV Fire, Crash One person died in a fiery crash on Route 78 in the early morning hours Sunday. A BMW SUV went off the road to the left on the eastbound side at mile post 42 in Watchung Borough around 3:45 a.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez said. The vehicle struck several trees and became fully engulfed in flames, killing the driver -- the only occupant whose identification remains pending. No other vehicles or passengers involved. The eastbound lanes were closed for approximately 5 hours. The accident remains under investigation.

The man was in the westbound lanes when he was struck by a Hyundai Elantra near milepost 50.4 around 10:40 p.m. in Union Townshp, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele said. The man was taken to University Hospital in stable condition for treatment of his leg.
