Morris County Officer Struck By Drunk Driver: Police
A Morris County police officer was struck by a drunken driver while assisting at the scene of a crash overnight, his department said. Jefferson Township Police Officer Tyler LaMantia was sitting in his marked patrol vehicle on Route 15 near Berkshire Valley Road when he was struck from behind by David Prontnicki, 45, of Budd Lake, around 3:05 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, Jefferson police Capt. Robert Bush said. Prontnicki was arrested at the scene for suspicion of driving under the influence, while LaMantia was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital. Group Of Distressed Boaters Rescued From Lake Hopatcong, Police Say
Several distressed boaters were rescued from Lake Hopatcong, authorities said. One adult in a trio of boaters aboard a pontoon vessel jumped into the water in the Great Cove section of the lake near Espanong Road on Saturday, July 2, Jefferson Township Police Capt. Robert Bush said in a release on Wednesday, July 6. The adult quickly went into distress, prompting a second boater to enter the water in a rescue attempt, police said. : Boy, 3, Found By Fisherman In Lake Hopatcong Dies
A 3-year-old boy died at the hospital after his lifeless body was found earlier this week by a Lake Hopatcong fisherman, authorities said. Jefferson police officers Charles Paskas and Mathew Saparito, and Cpl. Jeremy Romash performed CPR on the boy on Capp Beach around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jefferson Police Capt. Robert Bush said. The boy was then taken in an ambulance to St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The boy’s death was not deemed suspicious, Bush said.
