Newark Man Once Again Charged With Child Pornography
A Newark man who has previously been convicted of child pornography offenses was indicted Wednesday on yet more charges involving sexual images of minors. Keith Voolgaris, 62, was in possession of at least 50 videos showing sexual abuse of minors, including prepubescent children, from July to September 2017, according to authorities. Using a chatroom and the Dropbox app, authorities say Voolgaris transmitted images to a child pornography distributor in Minnesota. Newark Parking Authority Worker Seen Selling Heroin, Crack: Feds
An employee of Newark's parking authority was charged Wednesday with drugs and weapons offenses after authorities said he was observed selling narcotics while in uniform. Aughkay L. "K-Boogie" Green, 48, of Newark, sold 38 grams of heroin to an unnamed buyer Jan. 12, 2017, according to a federal indictment. He sold that person an additional 48 grams the following month for about $2,250. Green, who was under surveillance, was wearing his Newark Parking Authority uniform during that sale. Shooter In Elizabeth Killing Who Fled To Britain Sentenced To 60 Years
An Elizabeth man who fled the country after committing a fatal drive-by shooting in the city seven years ago was sentenced Thursday to 60 years in prison, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said. Eslam Gad was found guilty of murdering 21-year-old Anthony Holmes Jr. in June. Holmes, of Pemberton, was with friends and family at 3rd and Pine streets on Aug. 8, 2012 when someone in a Ford Mustang drove up and opened fire. Bloomfield Man Gets 25 Years For Sexually Assaulting Drugged Toddler
A 34-year-old Bloomfield resident was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison after admitting he and a woman sexually assaulted a toddler in Long Branch two years ago, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said. Jaime Mauricio Leon pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault and possession of child pornography in April. On June 16, 2017, a passerby looked through the window of a Long Branch home and saw Leon and the woman, Olga Diaz, 32, performing sex acts on the child, authorities said. Jersey City Man, 68, Found Guilty In Death Of Popular Coach, 77
A jury found a 68-year-old Jersey City man guilty of reckless manslaughter for killing another man in a fight last year, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said Wednesday. On April 15, 2018, police responded to a report of an altercation at Pershing Field and found Anthony Bello, 77, unresponsive and bleeding from a wound to his torso. Bello was pronounced dead that morning at Jersey City Medical Center. A 30-year-old Cranford man received a suspended five-year prison sentence Thursday after admitting he sexually assaulted a motel worker in Atlantic City three years ago, BreakingAC reported. In a rare move, a state appeals court on Friday overturned the conviction of a Manhattan man for murdering popular software engineer Robert Cantor in his Teaneck home, ordering a new trial. A jury in Essex County Thursday convicted an Irvington man guilty of vehicular homicide after years of legal wrangling over whether his record of driving under the influence would be admissible in court, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said. Carlos Green, who is now 44 years old, was driving a Cadillac Escalade near 19th and Ellis avenues Dec. 27, 2014, when he struck a pedestrian. An Elizabeth man who grabbed a 10-year-old girl as she walked to school and dragged her down an alleyway while he exposed himself to her was given the maximum sentence of 20 years for his crimes, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday.
