Authorities in Newark are seeking help identifying the man wanted in a weekend shooting. One male fired a handgun at another man during an argument just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday, at 70 Crawford St., and then took off in a gray Dodge Stratus bearing a temporary license plate, Newark police said. The dodge has heavy damage to the front bumper, driver's side rear door and passenger side. The Newark Police Department is asking the public's help locating a man who they said assaulted a pregnant woman Monday, sending her to the hospital where she gave birth prematurely. A Newark police officer assisting in an arrest by the Essex County Sheriff's Office was forced to fire on a dog last week after its owner ordered the animal to attack, Sheriff Armando Fontoura said. The sheriff's Bureau of Narcotics carried out a raid at 25 Chelsea Ave. Thursday night after receiving a tip about drug dealing in the area, Fontoura said. The Essex County Sheriff's Crime Stoppers program is offering rewards of up to $5,000 each for information on killings this year that claimed three lives in Newark. On Sept. 14, two 30-year-old men, Jason Duffy and Hassan Ward, were shot and killed at the Oscar Miles housing complex. The killings occurred shortly before 3 p.m. On Oct. 28, 27-year-old Avent Holston was fatally shot in the 300 block of West Kinney Street. Drunk Driver From Clifton Injures Newark Police Officer, Authorities Say
A Clifton man who was under the influence of alcohol slammed into a Newark police car early Sunday morning, seriously injuring an officer's legs, the department said in a statement. The officer was stopped at McCarter Highway and 3rd Street investigating a vehicle crash around 3:10 a.m. when Fernando Carrillo collided with the police car, pinning the officer. Gunfire Kills One, Wounds Three On Newark Street
One person was killed and three others were injured Monday night in a pair of shootings on the same Newark street, authorities said. Gunfire broke out just after 5 p.m. on South 8th Street, off 12th Avenue, a neighborhood of mostly two-family homes. The three hospitalized didn’t have life-threatening wounds, police said. A Brooklyn man suspected of several carjackings in Newark and Elizabeth last month is in custody, Newark police said Tuesday. Jaheem Fulmore was arrested at his home and be being held at the Essex County jail. Irvington Man Shot And Killed In Newark Early Sunday
A 43-year-old Irvington man was fatally shot in Newark early Sunday morning, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Newark police were called to the 100 block of Hartford Street around 2:40 a.m. There they found Clifford Cajou, who had suffered a gunshot wound.
