A juvenile was arrested for shooting a person in the hip following an altercation in Bayonne on the evening of Thursday, Aug. 22, authorities said. At 7:58 p.m., the juvenile was involved in a verbal disagreement with a person at a house party in the area of W 9th Street, which culminated in the juvenile shooting the victim in the hip, Bayonne police said. A 50-year-old Newark man and registered sex offender was arrested and charged on Wednesday, Aug. 7, with stealing hundreds of dollars from a collection box at a church in Bayonne last month. A car crash with a dropped load caused significant traffic delays in Bayonne on the morning of Monday, Aug. 5. The crash occurred on Route 440 South near the 63rd Street exit, the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management said. The crash caused heavy damage to the roadway, with debris strewn throughout. The Bayonne OEM said they were on scene doing cleanup, necessitating the closure of Route 440 South and making only one lane available on Route 440 North near Avenue C.
