An Atlantic City man was shot and killed on Saturday, Jan. 20, in another incident marking a deadly start to 2024 in the city, authorities said. City police responded to a shooting report at 119 North Virginia Avenue just before 7:30 p.m., the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced on Sunday, Jan. 21. Atlantic City leaders responded to criticism and called for community support after four homicides in the city during the first week of 2024. After four homicides in Atlantic City in the first week of 2024, the city's police union is calling for more officers to handle the "recent surge" in violence. Atlantic City Police Benevolent Association Local 24 posted a statement about the wave of killings on its Facebook page on Monday, Jan. 8. Cape May County Man Killed In Atlantic City Shooting
An Upper Township man was killed in a late night double shooting in Atlantic City on Sunday, Jan. 7, authorities said. City police responded to a ShotSpotter alert on the 1100 block of Monroe Avenue just after 10 p.m., according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. When officers arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds at the scene. Kevin Gayle, Jr., 37, of Marmora was unresponsive.
