A tropical system is expected to drench parts of Florida and the Gulf Coast this week, bringing flooding downpours, gusty winds, and the risk of coastal storm surge.
AccuWeather forecasters say the system, classified as a tropical rainstorm, will cross the Florida Peninsula on Tuesday, July 15, before moving into the gulf, where conditions could allow it to strengthen into a tropical depression or even a named storm. If it reaches that threshold, it would be called Dexter.

A 70-year-old man was ambushed and gunned down during a carjacking in West Philadelphia—and now two teenagers are facing murder charges, authorities announced.
Carmen Suero Jr., 70, of Drexel Hill, was shot in the back during an attempted robbery on the 300 block of North 63rd Street around 5:07 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, Philadelphia police said.
Officers rushed to the scene after reports of a person with a gun. They found Suero wounded beside his vehicle and rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:24 p.m., according to police.

A 32-year-old Pittsgrove man who worked as an elementary school custodian in Penns Grove was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Route 40 in Salem County on Thursday, July 10, authorities said.
At 1:13 p.m., troopers responded to Route 40 in Pilesgrove Township after a Dodge pickup truck attempting to make left turn on County Route 619 crashed into a Ford pickup truck traveling westbound, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for New Jersey State Police said.
Derick Martin, the driver of the Dodge, was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries, Lebron said.

Nine people died in a late-night fire at an assisted living facility in Massachusetts, fire officials said.
The fire broke out around 9:50 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at the Gabriel House on Oliver Street in Fall River, according to Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon, Police Chief Kelly Furtado, State Fire Marshal Jon Davine, and Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III.
