Rapper Lil Tjay, who was shot and critically wounded outside an Edgewater restaurant last summer, was arrested on gun charges stemming from that incident after returning this week from a world tour. The 22-year-old Bronx rapper, born Tione Jayden Merritt, had three handguns hidden in his car when he and a companion were shot during what authorities said was a botched robbery on June 22, 2023. A fugitive from Brooklyn was rescued from the ocean and then arrested in Atlantic City, authorities said. On Tuesday, May 2, at 4:47 p.m., Officer Salvatore Rando Jr. was flagged down by a boardwalk ambassador in reference to a male that appeared to be in distress. The male was seen going into the ocean at Hartford Avenue, Atlantic City police said. Rando responded to the beach and found Darren Brathwaite in the surf in waist high water. A 37-year-old Atlantic City man has been sentenced to 48 years in New Jersey State Prison for 15 crimes involving drugs and weapons, authorities said. Kevin Davis must serve 24 years of the sentence before he is eligible for parole, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
