Lewis Johnson, 35, was sentenced on Tuesday, Feb. 6 to life in prison, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced on Wednesday, Feb. 7. He must serve at least 63 3/4 years before he's eligible for parole under the No Early Release Act.

Prosecutors said Johnson killed a 17-year-old boy identified by the initials C.W. on Monday, June 8, 2020. Johnson drove down to Atlantic City from Easton, Pennsylvania, to help his then-girlfriend Shaquana Lewis confront the parents of her daughter's boyfriend after the teens got into a fight the night before.

When Johnson and Lewis arrived at the Blaine Avenue house, investigators said Johnson ran up the steps to the second-floor apartment's porch where C.W. and his foster brother were hanging out together. Johnson then pistol-whipped C.W. before shooting him in the back and foot.

Johnson then ran down the steps and shot up at the boys from the ground level. He drove out of Atlantic City, stopped at a Pleasantville liquor store, and went to the apartment he was staying at in Easton.

C.W. was pronounced dead later that day from his injuries in the shooting. Johnson and Lewis were arrested on Tuesday, June 9 and police found the gun Johnson used to kill C.W. under his bed.

A jury convicted Johnson on Dec. 11, 2023, of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and certain person not to possess a weapon. Prosecutors said the court gave him an extended prison sentence because of his lengthy criminal history, including several gun-related charges.

The major crimes unit for the county prosecutor's office helped the Atlantic City Police Department in the investigation.
