Dog Scares Off Bergen County Burglars, Police Say A pair of would-be burglars were scared off by one Bergen County family's dog on Wednesday morning, Oct. 2, police said. Little Ferry police say the two men cut through the screen windows in the front and back windows of the Summit Place home around 5 a.m. Then, they pried the windows open with a crowbar. The two never gained entry, though, as it's believed the owner's dog deterred them as they fled in an unknown vehicle, police said. Off-Duty Paterson Cop Held Stolen Gun As Pal Knocked Victim's Teeth Out At Lounge: Prosecutor A 33-year-old Paterson police officer is facing charges for his role in an assault that happened at a local lounge, and a subsequent motor vehicle stop in which he was DUI, officials said. Valentin Torres was off duty when he was handed a gun by Jonathan Cristobal at Mancora Lounge around 2 a.m. on Aug. 23, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. Electrical Fire At Humc Doused An electrical fire at Hackensack Meridian Health's Hackensack University Medical Center broke out Wednesday morning, Oct. 2. An activated fire alarm brought the city's fire department to the scene around 6:40 a.m., firefighters said. "Further investigation found an electrical buss bar shorted out and activated a nearby sprinkler head," the HFD said on Facebook. PA Motorcyclist, 43, Dies In Route 78 Crash In NJ A 43-year-old motorcyclist from Pennsylvania was killed in a crash on Route 78 in New Jersey, police said. Rayvaughn Webster, of Easton, was heading west on a Harley Davidson when the motorcycle overturned around 9:45 p.m. at milepost 48 in Springfield Township, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan said. Webster died as a result of the crash, which remains under investigation.

Tenafly Man, 50, Assaulted Child Under 16: Prosecutor A 50-year-old Bergen County man has been charged with assaulting a child under the age of 16 years old, authorities said.
