Westchester High-Speed Chase Leads To Crash Of Stolen Vehicle, Arrest A high-speed chase in Northern Westchester by New York State Police led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man who fled to evade officers during an attempted traffic stop. Michael F. Burton Jr., of the Bronx, was arrested around 2:20 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, for criminal possession of stolen property, said Trooper AJ Hicks. These Westchester Students Named National Merit Semifinalists Some of Westchester County’s best and brightest students were among those chosen as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, which celebrates academic achievement in high school students. On Wednesday, 16,000 high school seniors were chosen from around the country. Those 16,000 will soon be pared to 7,500 finalists, who will be picked to receive upwards of $31 million in scholarships, which will be announced next spring as they prepare to continue their educations in college. Westchester Student-Athlete Dies At 17 After Battling Cancer A student-athlete who was entering his senior year at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers has died after a battle with cancer. Brendan James Maguire, 17, of Patterson died on Monday, Aug 20. He had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma 14 months ago. He played both basketball and baseball at Kennedy Catholic, where his courage and faith, displayed throughout his illness, inspired all those around him. He is survived by his parents, Ellen and Rory Maguire; sisters, Meghan and Ciara; maternal grandparents, Joe and Pat McGann; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predecease…
