Yonkers Woman Struck By Train After Driving Drunk Onto N.J. Tracks: Cops

YONKERS, N.Y. – A Yonkers woman escaped disaster after allegedly driving drunk onto the tracks at a NJ Transit station, where she was struck by a train.

Montvale Police say Danielle R. King, 41, entered a parking lot at the Montvale train station shortly before 3:30 p.m. Saturday and apparently drove off the platform, directly in the path of an oncoming train.

While the train’s engineer applied the emergency brakes, the train was unable to avoid striking the driver’s side of King’s 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, police said.

King was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus for observation but was uninjured in the wreck, police said. She was later charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and careless driving.

None of the train’s 30 passengers was injured. According to NorthJersey.com, train traffic was delayed about five hours after the incident. NJ Transit officials were unavailable for comment Sunday.

NJ Transit police are investigating the crash.
