YONKERS, N.Y. A Yonkers man drowned while swimming in the Delaware River Wednesday near the Orange County town of Deerpark.
Efrain Campos, 42, had spent the day rafting on the river with his girlfriend, Julie Negron, when he decided to go swimming, Deerpark Police said in a news release.
Around 4:15 p.m., Campos removed his life jacket and sandals and jumped into the water, police said. A little more than 15 minutes later, after Negron lost sight of Campos, she became concerned and took the raft to shore in the area of Sleepy Hollow Road to call for help, police said.
After a search of the water, Campos body was found in shallow water on the Pennsylvania side of the river where he was pronounced dead. Police said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug use and foul play was not suspected.
