Members of the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to the northbound lanes of Central Park Avenue, near Sadore Lane at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, where there were reports of an accident involving an overturned vehicle.
Upon arrival, Yonkers Police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said that officers spotted the BMW M5 in the roadway, with a passenger having been ejected from the vehicle further down the road, unconscious and unresponsive. First responders administered medical aid, including CPR and transported 19-year-old Nina Cordero of Yonkers to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Politopoulos said that two other men also suffered non-life threatening injuries, including the driver of the BMW and another passenger. The driver remains in the hospital and charges against him are pending. His name has not been released.
A preliminary report from investigators from the Detective Division Major Case and Crime Scene Units as well as members of the Traffic Division Accident Reconstruction specialists determined that speed was a contributing factor in the accident, though the investigation is ongoing.
