Constantine 'Gus' Korwatch, 89, Yonkers Engineer

YONKERS, N.Y. – Constantine "Gus" Korwatch of Yonkers died Oct. 31. He was 89.

Born Dec. 2, 1922, in Yonkers, he was the son of Anthony and Catherine Screipy Korwatch. He was raised in Yonkers, and graduated from Commerce High School and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point.

He served as an engineer aboard various ships during World War II and in active duty with the Navy during the Korean War. Korwatch worked as an engineer for Yonkers Raceway and retired in 1993.

He served as a member of the Examining Board of Engineers for the City of Yonkers for 29 years.

On July 3, 1957, he married Pauline Rice. She died in December 2001. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16 and a parishioner of Prophet Elias Church.

Korwatch is survived by two brothers, Alexander and Lawrence. He was predeceased by three sisters, Marie, Evelyn and Lydia.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
