The dead cats and kittens were found by Yonkers DPW workers in various stages of decomposition, tied in garbage bags and hung to a tree in wooded area just off 14 Overlook Terrace.
Subsequent necropsies performed on three of the 25 cats ruled that the cats had all died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, implicating a deliberate mass killing.
As of Tuesday, April 29, Yonkers Police have not identified any suspect or possible motive, according to Lt. Patrick McCormack.
“The SPCA is very grateful to the following animal welfare organizations who have responded to our Humane Law Enforcement investigation with generous offers of rewards," Westchester SPCA Executive Director Shannon Laukhuf said.
The organizations offering reward money are The ASPCA, $5,000; PETA, $5,000; The Humane Society of the United States, $5,000; The Animal Legal Defense Fund, $5,000; The Defense of Animals Fund, $2,500 and the Alley Cat Allies, $750.00.
She added, “These significant rewards highlight the horrific nature of this crime, and we are hopeful that the offer of this money will create an incentive for individuals with pertinent information on the case to come forward."
