Signs still pop up on lawns, but around Westchester, car parades are now setting the pac for what high school graduation looks like in 2020. New York state senators, however, are hoping for outdoor, in-person ceremonies later in the summer. Several wrote to Gov. A unique "social distancing" plan for a Class of 2020 high school graduation is drawing attention amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. North Salem High School in Northern Westchester announced through a much-anticipated YouTube video that graduation will be held "quarantine style" at a drive-in theater. Video: ‘Silent Graduation’ Held By Area High School So Student With Autism Can Get Diploma
A Carmel High School student was able to receive his diploma thanks to the help of the entire 2019 graduating class, and family and friends attending the event. Jack Higgins, who is autistic and hypersensitive to sound, was able to receive his diploma after the school's principal, Lou Riolo, asked all attending the event to hold "silent graduation," when he accepted his diploma. Kindness, curiosity and tenacity were the qualities that Pace University graduates were encouraged to cultivate on Wednesday, May 16 as the university held its 50th annual commencement at the Pleasantville campus.
