Alert Issued For Grassy Sprain Brook Sewage Discharge Hundreds of gallons of untreated waste was discharged near the Grassy Sprain Brook Reservoir on Thursday afternoon when a private sewer backed up. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an alert shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, stating that there was a discharge emanating from a manhole in a nearby stream bed at 1500 Central Park Avenue in Yonkers. According to officials, the sewage discharge began at 11 a.m., lasting more than five hours at an estimated rate of 10 gallons per minute.
