In 2005, the then-county legislator failed to unseat Andrew Spano for county executive. He learned, moved forward, and the Republican in a predominantly Democratic county beat the same man in 2009.
Last year, Astorino took on Andrew Cuomo in the gubernatorial race, and even though he came up short, the lifelong Westchester resident learned from it; and he's moving forward.
Astorino can even learn from tragedy. After the death of six people in a Metro-North crash in Valhalla, Astorino is taking a measured approach to learn as much as he can to help prevent a similar event.
"With regard to railroad crossings, I think obviously they all need to be inspected and are," Astorino told Daily Voice. "The simple answer isn't let's just throw money at things. 'What is the issue we're dealing with?' really needs to be answered first."
