Trump has garnered national attention for making harsh statements about immigration and attacks aimed at major Republican figures like Rick Perry and Sen. John McCain. Several campaign strategists, however, expect Trump to remain on a higher road come debate time, Politico reported.
Fox News, the network hosting and televising the debate, is still preparing for the worst and hopes to strictly enforce time limits in an effort to keep the billionaire from taking over the debate, Politico said.
Peekskill native George Pataki will not participate in the main debate, but will have a chance speak during a 5 p.m. "undercard" debate with the candidates who didn't qualify for the primetime event.
