PBS Plans New Channel Dedicated To Children’s Programming

PBS has announced it is creating a new 24-hour channel devoted exclusively to children’s programming that will make its debut later this year, according to the New York Times.

'Dinosaur Train,' is just one of the many shows that will be on a new PBS channel devoted solely for children.

As the demand for children's programming increases, and Netflix and HBO have jumped on the bandwagon, PBS Kids will be free and also will be available online with a live stream, said the New York Times. The broadcaster said the new channel will put an emphasis on educational content, the same as other PBS channels, said the New York Times.

It will broadcast such popular shows as “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” “Dinosaur Train” and “Wild Kratts,” said the New York Times. The channel will not be used for fundraising efforts and will offer children's shows more into prime time, when other channels drop children's programming, said the New York Times. The live stream also will offer educational games, added the New York Times.
