Beginning on Tuesday, Tappan Zeee Constructors will be continuing work that requires lane and ramp closures for Westchester-bound traffic on the Thruway. The work follows the shift of the southbound and eastbound traffic lanes to the first span of the new Tappan Zee Bridge.
The construction activities will require the use of machines to break pavement and cut deck panels near the old bridge’s abutments, making it unsafe for motorists or pedestrians.
According to officials, the effort will require multiple overnight lane closures of southbound/eastbound lanes from exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) to exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9) as well as the southbound/eastbound Thruway exit 10 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) on-ramp on the nights of Thursday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 20. Southbound/eastbound drivers will be detoured to the exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W)
All four Rockland-bound lanes will remain open during the operation.
Each night this week, one lane will be closed beginning at 7 p.m., with two lanes closed beginning at 8 p.m. from exit 11 to exit 10. On Thursday and Friday, the southbound exit ramp at exit 10 will be closed at 7 p.m.
All lanes and ramps are expected to be opened to traffic the following day no later than 6 p.m. Detours and signage will be posted in the area to assist motorists.
