Raw Sewage Leaks Into Hudson River After Pipe Bursts In Westchester
Tens-of-thousands of gallons of raw sewage were dumped into the Hudson River when a water main broke in Northern Westchester. Emergency repairs had to be made after a major water main break on Kemeys Avenue in Ossining at approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, near the Kemeys Cove Pump Station. Officials said that once the break was discovered, a contractor was called to repair the break. Tanker trucks arrived at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sunday and began hauling sewage. The thunderstorms passing through the region led to a sewage discharge that flooded into the Hudson River. For the second time in two days, the Poughkeepsie Water Pollution Control Plant has issued an alert after 6,000 gallons of untreated waste was spilled into the Hudson River over the span of 20 minutes on Tuesday. Alert Issued For Grassy Sprain Brook Sewage Discharge
Hundreds of gallons of untreated waste was discharged near the Grassy Sprain Brook Reservoir on Thursday afternoon when a private sewer backed up. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an alert shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, stating that there was a discharge emanating from a manhole in a nearby stream bed at 1500 Central Park Avenue in Yonkers.
