Bobcats Sighted At Nature Preserve In Westchester
Although bobcats usually don't like to make their presence known, two of the creatures were captured on camera at a Northern Westchester nature preserve. The two felines were sighted on Thursday morning, Nov. 14 at the Old Field Preserve on Mead Street in the Lewisboro hamlet of Waccabuc, according to the Lewisboro Parks and Recreation Department. Two several-hundred-acre land parcels have been added to a popular state park spanning two counties in the Hudson Valley, officials announced. In an announcement on Thursday, Oct. 3, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul revealed the addition of 763 acres to Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park in Putnam and Dutchess counties. New York officials announced that a total of about 1,200 acres of parkland will be added to three state parks in the Hudson Valley. According to an announcement from Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday, March 3, the new parkland will be added to Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve in Dutchess and Putnam counties, Schunnemunk State Park in Orange County, and Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park in Putnam County. The spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has now hit some of New York’s most-popular recreation hubs. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced over the weekend that all state-operated campgrounds, cabins, and cottages will be closed to overnight visitation through at least Thursday, April 30. A rockslide has closed the popular Breakneck Ridge trail to ensure hiking enthusiasts aren't injured. The trail in Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve is temporarily closed as a precaution due to a recent rockfall, said Dan Keefe, spokesman for New York State Parks. Stuck Breakneck Ridge Teen Hiker Issued A Ticket Following Rescue
A 19-year-old who had to be rescued after becoming struck high on a trail on Breakneck Ridge, a mountain along the Hudson River between Beacon and Cold Spring, was issued a ticket after he was back to safety.
