Two high-achieving high school seniors from Westchester who placed at the top of their class are being recognized for their impressive accomplishments by district officials. In an announcement on Tuesday, May 7, the Ardsley School District revealed seniors Derek Xu and Lydia Lung have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively. A well-known mother of three from the region who was a member of the William Raveis Real Estate Company family is being remembered for her kindness and impact on the community where she lived. Massachusetts native Meghan Raveis, age 45, died on Friday, June 23 after she was struck by a vehicle while walking near her Connecticut residence in the town of Fairfield in the 500 block of Redding Road. College Athlete From Hudson Valley Died After Choking During Charity Contest, Report Says
A college student from the Hudson Valley who died over the weekend in Massachusetts choked during an eating contest for charity, according to a report. Rockland County resident Madie Nicpon, age 20, a 2019 graduate of Suffern High School, was a junior at Tufts University in Massachusetts. Nicpon choked during a hot dog eating contest held at an off-campus home and died of her injuries at Massachusetts General Hospital on Sunday, Oct. 17, according to a report by WCVB, ABC 5 in Boston. A fitness trainer in the area has died at age 28. Bruce A. Swanson of Brewster died on Monday, Oct. 22. He was born on Jan. 24, 1990 in Carmel, the son of Bruce and Mary (Sammarco) Swanson and brother of Victoria and Michael Swanson. He graduated from Brewster High School, was a member of the National Honor Society and of several modified and high school football teams. He also played lacrosse and baseball. Westchester native Pablo Alberto Sanchez died suddenly of undetermined causes on May 7. He was 25. Sanchez was born in Valhalla on Feb. 27, 1993, to Juan Sanchez and Ana Espinoza. He was the youngest of four children. Sanchez spent his childhood in his beloved hometown of Mount Kisco.
