RiverMarket is known for its seasonal fare and changes its menu to keep in line with what local farms, like Orange County’s Bloominghill Farm, are harvesting. Glenn Vogt, a resident of Croton-on-Hudson who opened RiverMarket with co-owner John Crabtree last year, says fresh pumpkin is only available between October and November.
"We like to use it in interesting ways to capture people’s imaginations," Vogt told Daily Voice.
One of RiverMarket’s unique uses for pumpkin is its Imperial Pumpkin Ale Cheese Cake, which offers pumpkin cheese cake topped with peanut brittle with a side of pumpkin ice cream that is infused with Southern Tier Brewing Co.’s Pumpking Ale. RiverMarket pastry chef Margarida Velardo also crafted the delightful Hudson Valley pumpkin mousse, which includes spiced pumpkin mousse topped with salted roasted pumpkin seeds in a pumpkin seed and caramel brittle bowl.
Emilio Ugarte is also serving pumpkin at RiverMarket's bar. RiverMarket currently has Delaware’s Dogfish Head Punkin Ale on tap, as well as stronger brews like Imperial Pumpking and Warlock craft beers from Southern Tier Brewing Co. in Lakewood, N.Y. Ugarte is also crafting pumpkin cocktails with Crop Harvest Earth Organic’s Spiced Pumpkin Organic Vodka.
Cedar Street Grill, 23 Cedar St., Dobbs Ferry
A cinnamon and sugar rimmed pumpkin ale from Elmsford’s Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. served by Cedar Street Grill looks just as good as it smells, and it tastes even better.
“We’re a seasonal restaurant, and we change the food, beer and cocktail menus with the seasons,” said Joe Kay, who owns Cedar Street Grill in Dobbs Ferry with his brother chef Matt Kay and mother Catherine Kay, Dobbs Ferry’s deputy mayor.
The Kay family, who are Dobbs Ferry residents, will premiere their new seasonal cocktail menu in two weeks, which will feature a pumpkin spice concoction called the Haymaker.
J.J. Beans, 19 Cedar St., Dobbs Ferry
You can skip out on Starbucks for a local pumpkin spice brew at J.J. Beans in Dobbs Ferry. Its pumpkin spice coffee and lattes are from a local vendor and made with real pumpkin. You can get pumpkin spice hot or iced coffees at J.J. Beans from September through March. J.J. Beans also serves homemade pumpkin gelato that is to die for.
“Pumpkin spice is a seasonal coffee and is really very popular,” said owner Jillian Borrelli, a lifelong resident of Dobbs Ferry. “It’s like the face of fall”
