Burglar Runs From Cops After Breaking Into Greenport Pharmacy, Police Say
An accused burglar is in custody after allegedly breaking into a Long Island pharmacy and then running from police. The incident happened at around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Greenport, at the Colonial Drug Store on Front Street, according to Southold Town Police. Officers were called about a possible break-in and found the suspect, 49-year-old Juan Lopez, of Greenport, inside. Lopez fled the scene on foot and officers arrested him a short time later. Teens Saved From Near-Drowning In Cutchogue After Boat Breaks Down
Two teenagers are lucky to be alive after being pulled from Long Island Sound miles away from shore. Emergency crews were called shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, July 5, after a 23-foot boat lost power about three miles north of Cutchogue, according to Southold Town Police. The 18-year-old operator told dispatchers that a 16-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl who were on the boat had jumped into the water without life jackets. Man Dies Days After Being Found Injured At Greenport Residence
Police are investigating the death of a man days after he was found injured at a residence on Long Island. Southold Town Police responded to the Lakeside Garden Apartments in Greenport, located at 301 North St., at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Friday, June 30 after Modesto Salguero-Guillen, age 48, was found seriously injured. Two people are dead after a motorcycle collided with a charter bus during the evening commute on Long Island. Emergency crews in Greenport were called shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, with reports of a crash at the intersection of State Route 25 and Moores Lane. According to Southold Town Police, a Hampton Jitney bus was pulling out of Moores Lane when it crossed into the path of the motorcycle. Pilot Walks Away From Small Plane Crash At Mattituck Airport
An 82-year-old pilot walked away uninjured after his small plane crashed at a Long Island airport. The crash happened at around 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 27, at the Mattituck Airport, according to Southold Town Police. Emergency crews arrived to find the single-engine Cessna plane with front end damage in a grassy area just off the runway. The pilot, identified as Bernard Stepnoski, of Mattituck, was the only person onboard. He was not injured, police said. The cause of the crash has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.

A Long Island man drowned after he fell into a swimming pool while shoveling snow from the nor'easter that moved through the region. Southold Town Police said the man was a senior citizen from the Suffolk County hamlet of Cutchogue, in the Town of Southold on the north fork of Long Island, according to the Suffolk Times. Man Who Lost Control Of Sailboat Rescued By Southold Bay Constables
A man who was unable to operate his 16-foot sailboat was saved by Bay Constables when he overturned the vessel. The rescue took place on Friday, June 18, when Southold Town Police received a report of a man overboard off of Kenney's Beach, in Southold. Police said the boat's owner Peter Stanton, age 61, of Woodbridge, Virginia, was apparently unable to properly operate his 16' sailboat when he caused it to overturn. A man driving drunk with two children as passengers crashed his car into a Long Island grocery store, according to police.
