6 Busted Selling Alcohol, Tobacco To Minors At Long Island Stores: Police With the help of undercover agents, police on Long Island reportedly found six people from a handful of stores to be selling alcohol and tobacco products to minors. The bust started on Monday, Dec. 11 at approximately 5:30 p.m., according to Nassau County Police. Using underage agents working with the Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit, officers went to stores in Franklin Square and West Hempstead as part of “Project 21,” meant to target the sale of illicit products to minors. Long Island Man Hit By Box Truck Dies From Injuries A Long Island man who was struck by a box truck while crossing a busy roadway has died. Alfred Piretto, age 86, died on Monday, Nov. 22, from the injuries suffered during the crash on Tuesday, Nov. 16 in Franklin Square. According to detectives, Piertto, of Franklin Square, was struck at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike. The driver of the box truck, 34, remained at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
