Big Lots To Close Hundreds More Stores, Including Several In Massachusetts It's more bad news for discount retailer Big Lots. The nationwide chain announced in June that it would close 40 stores following dismal sales and rising costs, but in a new filing last week, the company said it may need to shutter nearly 300 locations — several of them in the Northeast.  Big Lots announced in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday, Aug. 2, that under an updated term sheet, the company would need to close 20 percent of its 1,392 stores — about 290 in all.  Here are some of the local closures. 456,000 Waffle Makers Recalled Due To Burn Hazard, With Dozens Of Injury Reports Nearly half a million waffle makers are being recalled due to a burn hazard that has resulted in dozens of injuries. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of 456,000  PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers on Thursday, May 18 after 44 reports of incidents including 34 burn injuries with three requiring medical attention. "Hot pieces of the waffle or stuffing can be expelled from the waffle maker during use or upon opening the product, posing a burn risk to consumers," the CPSC said. Long Island Man Indicted For Alleged Sexual Abuse Of Child A Suffolk County man has been indicted for the repeated sexual abuse of a child. Jose Samuel Carabantes Pineda, age 33, of Riverhead, was indicted on Wednesday, March 31, for the abuse of a minor girl which began in the fall of 2020, said Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy D. Sini. According to the DA's Office, on Saturday, March 20, Carabantes Pineda allegedly drove the victim to the parking lot of a Big Lots located in Riverhead, restrained her with duct tape in the back of his minivan, and sexually assaulted her.  A Good Samaritan in the parking lot heard screaming coming fro…
