Man Apprehended After Fleeing Long Island Traffic Stop, Jumping Into Water, Police Say A 60-year-old Long Island man was charged after authorities said he attempted to flee a traffic stop by driving away and jumping into a body of water. The incident happened in Freeport at 10:20 p.m. on Monday, July 11, according to the Nassau County Police Department. NCPD said Freeport Police officers saw a 2007 Nissan drive through a red light at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and South Main Street.
