A man and woman were on a 14-foot Capri sailboat at approximately 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16 in Wantagh, when a gust of wind overturned the vessel, stranding them both in the water.

Nassau County Police officers in Marine 1 were dispatched to the area, and were able to locate the victims and their vessel.

Both were taken aboard the police boat, and their sailboat was towed to the Wantagh Park Marina.

Nassau County Police medics responded to the marina, but both the man and woman refused medical treatment. Officers then assisted them in removing the sailboat from the water and placing it on his trailer before clearing the scene.
