Southold Police Rescue Suicidal Man, Three People Whose Boat Capsized
Police on Long Island responding to a suicidal man who had hung himself, found themselves at the same time working to save three people whose boat had capsized. The incidents began around 6 p.m. in the town of Southold when officers were alerted to a potentially suicidal man. Responding officers were told that the man was in possession of a handgun and would allegedly shoot responding officers and then himself, said Lt. Scott Latham, of the Southold Police. Officers Rescue 1-Year-Old Locked In Car At Long Island Beach, Police Report
Police officers rescued a child who was locked in a car with the windows up on Long Island. The incident happened on Saturday, July 10, at about 4:45 p.m. in Atlantic Beach, according to the Nassau County Police Department. The 1-year-old girl was locked in a car with the air conditioner set to "on," but the car had automatically shut off., said police. Officers reportedly broke the window to free the girl. Police officers came to the aid of a pair of boaters after their sailboat overturned outside a Long Island marina. A man and woman were on a 14-foot Capri sailboat at approximately 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16 in Wantagh, when a gust of wind overturned the vessel, stranding them both in the water. Nassau County Police officers in Marine 1 were dispatched to the area, and were able to locate the victims and their vessel. A Long Island woman sitting on the edge of a roof in crisis was saved by police officers, according to authorities. The incident took place just before 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 10 in the Nassau County village of Bellerose. That's when the Emergency Services Unit was called in to assist with a woman sitting close to the edge of the second-story roof of a three-story home and she appeared to be in crisis. An 89-year-old Long Island man was saved by police officers from his burning home over the weekend. The incident took place around 10:30 p.m., Saturday, March 6, in Mineola, said the Nassau County Police. According to police, a passerby observed heavy smoke coming from a chimney while walking his dog and notified police. Upon arrival, responding Nassau County three police officers observed an active fire coming from the chimney. Man Suffers Possible Hypothermia After Falling Off Long Island Dock Into Canal Waters
Police and a Good Samaritan rescued a Long Island man who fell off a dock into the water. The incident took place around 12:20 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31, on Clubhouse Road in Merrick, said Nassau County Police. According to police, officers responded to the rear of a Clubhouse Road residence for a 73-year-old man who fell into a canal after securing his boat dock. Brothers Rescued From Disabled Boat In Long Island Sound In Suffolk
Two brothers had to be rescued from the Long Island Sound after their rowboat became stranded miles from the shore. Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers responded shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10 after two Brentwood brothers found themselves stranded approximately three miles off Sunken Meadow Beach.
