Fatal Stabbing Outside Copiague Deli: 28-Year-Old Suspect Nabbed

A suspect has been apprehended after a man was stabbed to death near a Long Island deli.

The 30-year-old victim was found on the ground next to a deli in Copiague on Barcellona Place at approximately 7:40 p.m. Monday, May 15, Suffolk County Police said.

The man, Jose Argueta-Canales, of Copiague, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an investigation by Suffolk County PD Homicide Squad detectives, the suspect,  Gherson Lopez, was apprehended at around 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 17.

Lopez, age 28, of Copiague, was charged with second-degree murder.

He was held overnight at the Suffolk County Police Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday, May 18.
