Bill Adding Fencing To Bridges In Region To Prevent People From Deadly Jumps Moves Forward A bill aimed at stopping suicides by adding preventive fencing to five Hudson Valley bridges has passed the New York State Senate unanimously. Now, the bill introduced by State Sen. Pete Harckham (D, Mount Kisco), will move to the State Assembly, whose session ends on Friday, June 7, for consideration. Developing: 15 Protestors Charged After Closing Down Bridge In Region New York State Police arrested 15 people during a protest calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict after they shut down parts of a major highway and a bridge.  The incident occurred in Dutchess County on I-84 and the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge around 8 a.m., Monday, April 15. According to Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police, the bridge was closed for approximately 45 minutes for state police to clear the bridge and detain the protestors. ID Released For Woman Who Died After Jumping From Bridge In Region Police have identified a woman who jumped to her death from a bridge in the region on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Original report: Woman Jumps From Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police announced on Thursday, Nov. 16 that the body of Dutchess County resident Stacy M. Shanahan, age 49, of Beekman, was the person who was found dead under the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge near Fishkill.  No signs of foul play have been discovered at this time, Hicks said. The Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office was on the scene aiding in the investigation.

The incident took place in Dutchess County in Beacon just before 6 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. According to Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police, the woman's body has been recovered. Notification of next of kin is still taking place, so the woman's identity has not yet been released. The collision occurred in Dutchess County in the town of Fishkill around 6 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 7 in the area of Route 9D and I-84. According to the Town of Fishkill Police, officers responded to the area after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a car versus a pedestrian crash. Man Jumps From Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, Police Say A man who jumped from a Hudson Valley bridge survived the fall, police said. The incident took place in Orange County in the town of Newburgh around 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 15. The man who jumped from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge was rescued by a police officer on a jet ski, said Trooper Steven Nevel with the New York State Police. Few details are available at this time. Tolls To Rise In Just Days On These Bridges In Region Higher toll rates are heading to several New York bridges in the region.
