A Beekeeping 101 workshop will be led by Regina Blakeslee of the Hudson Valley Natural Beekepeers at 2 p.m. Sunday. This workshop will cover some key aspects of bee biology and behavior and introduce you to ‘natural’ beekeeping methods. You will learn a brief history of beekeeping, the basic equipment needed, site selection, and where to obtain your honeybees and equipment. You will learn a more sustainable, holistic approach on how the colony works as an organism, interacts with the environment, plants, flowers, and with us. Even if you may not want to be a beekeeper, come and learn how to appreciate pollinators, as well as how to go pesticide-free and improve the environment with beneficial forage plantings.
The cost is $15 for registered attendees and $20 at the door. Grange members are admitted for free (admission fee covers one person or the whole family). For more information or to register, visit www.PutnamValleyGrange.org/backyardfarming, email info@PutnamValleyGrange.org or call (914) 949-4679.
