Burglar Hit Same Car Wash In Region 10 Times, Police Say An accused serial burglar from the region who allegedly hit the same business nearly a dozen times has finally been caught by police. Troopers in Columbia County were first called to the Cantele Car Wash in Greenport on April 22, 2022 with reports of two possible break-ins, according to New York State Police. Investigators determined that the wash, located on Fairview Avenue, had been burglarized on 10 occasions, with the suspect making off with over $4,000 and causing extensive damage to a vending machine and coin dispenser in the process. Child Celebrating Halloween Hit By Car Near Diner In Area An area child who was out celebrating Halloween was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver. The incident took place around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, when the 4-year-old child was crossing a busy roadway near the Plaza Diner in the Town of Greenport with his mother. According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, as two crossed Fairview Avenue, the child was struck by a northbound vehicle.   The vehicle did not stop and continued northbound, police said.   The vehicle is described as a dark-colored SUV.   The Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's …
