Here's What Hudson Valley County Saw An Increase In Crime

New data from The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services has listed several Hudson Valley counties for having the highest crime rates in the state, with one seeing an increase.

The data encompasses statistics surrounding index crimes, which include violent crimes like murder as well as property crimes like burglary. Though the data revealed that crime as a whole is on the decline, it also brought awareness to a total of five Hudson Valley counties with higher crime rates.

Here are the counties that saw an increase in crime around the Hudson Valley, along with their five-year change in crime rate, total crime counts and 2017 population data:

9. Putnam County:

  • Percent change: +3.9%
  • Percent change (5 years): -18.3%
  • Crimes per 100,000 in 2017: 632
  • Total crimes in 2017: 628
  • Crimes per 100,000 in 2016: 608
  • Total crimes in 2016: 603
  • Population: 99,323

27. Rockland County

  • Percent change: -5.0%
  • Percent change (5 years): -12.8%
  • Crimes per 100,000 in 2017: 1,035
  • Total crimes in 2017: 3,404
  • Crimes per 100,000 in 2016: 1,089
  • Total crimes in 2016: 3,561
  • Population: 328,868

33. Dutchess County

  • Percent change: -7.2%
