MaryEllen Sheridan, 66, Of Pleasant Valley

PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. – MaryEllen Sheridan, a resident of Pleasant Valley, died Tuesday, May 31. She was 66.

Born Sept.19,1949, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Irene Flannery and James Trunk.

She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park. She was first married to Philip Benante Jr. and later to William Sheridan, who survives her at home.

Before retiring, she was employed for more than 30 years as a social worker at Hudson River Psychiatric Center, where she took great joy in helping others. She was known to be a frequent blood donor and a good friend to many in the community.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer Sullivan of Fishkill and Philip Benante III of Pleasant Valley and their spouses Patrick and Kerri; step-daughter, Shawna Sheridan of Pleasant Valley; grandchildren, Cole, Finnley, Keagan, Kieran, Luke, and Jordan; sisters and brothers, Peggy Bertozzi of Connecticut, Susie Talbot of North Carolina, John Trunk of Staatsburg and Jimmy Trunk of Pleasant Valley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Irene; and brother, William.

Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, with a service for family and close friends following the calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor may be made to the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie, which provided her with a safe and nurturing environment throughout her childhood.
