New Rochelle Preps for Weekend Snowfall

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Charlie and Barbara Garitee stopped by Home Depot on Weyman Ave. Friday evening to buy five extra bundles of firewood to stay warm during this weekend's anticipated snowfall. 

"We have a fire pit outside," said Barbara. "It's a nice atmosphere."

Another Home Depot customer, Walter Tobar, who was buying needed wall insulation, isn't so positive snow will fall.

"They say it's going to snow, but I don't know," Tobar said. "I don't think it's going to snow. I guess we'll have to see what happen."

Other customers stocked up on ice melt, shovels, and windshield wiper fluid in anticipation of the forecasted precipitation.

Rain is predicted before 5 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. This will be followed by rain and snow. Temperatures are forecasted to fall to around 35 by 5 p.m. as well. Conditions will be breezy, with a northeast wind between 14 and 23 miles per hour. Their is a 100 percent chance of precipitation with less than a half inch of snow accumulation possible.

Rain and snow is forecasted before 2 a.m. Saturday night, followed by a chance of snow, and a low around 33 degrees. Conditions will be windy, with a north wind between 23 and 28 miles per hour. Wind guests will be as high as 44 miles per hour. There is a 90 percent chance of percipitation with new snow accumulation of three to five inches possible. 

"I think we'll get some," said Barbara. "Not much, but some."
