Discovery Of Bacteria Prompts Closure Of Beaches In New Rochelle: Here's Full List Several beaches in Westchester along Long Island Sound have been closed indefinitely following the discovery of bacteria in the water, officials said.  The eight beaches, located in New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, and Rye, were shut down on Tuesday, Aug. 29 based on the bacteriological results of beach water samples collected the day before, the Westchester Health Department announced.  These beaches include:  Glen Island VIP Club in New Rochelle; Greentree Club in New Rochelle; Davenport Beach Club in New Rochelle; Surf Club in New Rochelle; Beach Point Club in Mamaroneck; …

Former Yonkers Resident Barbara Sullivan, Mother Of Five, 90 Barbara M. Sullivan died peacefully at her home in Bedford on Monday, July 2, in the company of her loving family. She was 90. She was born Barbara A. McGrath to Dr. James B. and Stella McGrath of Riverdale. She spent happy summers with her family, including her two sisters, Nancy and Suzie, in Westhampton Beach, Long Island where she enjoyed sailing, swimming in the ocean and long walks along the beach -- a lifelong passion. Barbara graduated from the Academy of Mount St. Vincent in Tuxedo Park, and Trinity College in Washington, D.C. where she made lifelong friendships. After college, she…
