The two-year, full-time program includes coursework in the foundation sciences of speech-language pathology that is assimilated into clinical coursework which will prepare students to evaluate and treat speech, language and swallowing disorders, as well as cognitive and social aspects of communication.

The CSD program is a 58-credit, student-centered experience that will offer clinical opportunities, as well as externships. In a variety of settings, students will have opportunities to provide speech and language therapy to both adults and children with a full array of speech and language disorders .

"Iona has been offering an extremely strong, clinically focused speech communication studies program to undergraduate students for decades,” said Dorothy Leone, assistant professor and program director.

“We are truly excited about being able to bring this experience to our new graduate program, providing that same kind of education and skills to our first cohort of graduate students this fall."

The program will be taught in a campus clinic that will offer clinical opportunities all in a small-class-size setting. Students will have one-on-one supervision by licensed therapists as they gain professional practicum experience. Graduate research opportunities with faculty members will also be offered to compliment the advanced degree experience.
