Thomas Byron O’Connell, 86, Of New Rochelle, Lifelong Westchester Resident

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Thomas Byron O'Connell died Oct. 13. He was 86.

O’Connell was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Manhattan, son of Thomas Joseph and Isabelle O'Connell. He grew up in Bronxville Manor and graduated from Tuckahoe High School in 1944. He was a lifelong Westchester resident, living primarily in New Rochelle, Mt. Vernon and Bronxville. He was an Eagle Scout, and created a Victory Garden for the local community during World War II. He graduated from Columbia University in 1953 with a major in accounting. In the 1950s, he created "Taxco," his own tax preparation and accounting business in Westchester. He served many local residents. Taxco is carried on by his son, Tom O'Connell, in New Rochelle. O’Connell was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. He was active in Pro-Life activities and the protection of the unborn. O’Connell is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Mary Rose, Thomas, Robert, Isabelle, Hope, Francis and Anne; 10 grandchildren; and brother, Robert Andrew, of Springfield, Virginia. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Our Lady Of Perpetual Health Church, Pelham Manor. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
