Man Convicted of Fatally Stabbing Girlfriend's Ex

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A Mount Vernon man was found guilty Friday in the stabbing death of his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend last September, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore has announced.

Dameon Bodie, 31, was convicted by a jury trial on one count of second-degree murder, a class A-1 felony.

On Sept. 2, 2011, he was walking with his girlfriend in Mount Vernon around 11:15 p.m. when they saw the victim, Richard Reid, 44. Reid was the father of the woman's child.

Reid and Bodie began to fight on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Madison Street. Eventually, Bodie stabbed Reid multiple times in the neck. The defendent's girlfriend tried to stop the bleeding, but Reid died of his injuries.

A neighbor called 911, but Bodie ran away and was taken by someone else to Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle for injuries he sustained during the fight. He gave the hospital a fake name and told the staff he had been robbed.

New Rochelle Police responded to the hospital to take a report of the supposed robbery. Subsequently, they learned about the homicide in Mount Vernon, at which point an investigation began. Bodie was arrested by Mount Vernon Police on Sept. 3.

Bodie faces a maximum of 25-years-to-life in state prison. His sentencing will be July 31.

Assistant District Attorney John O’Rourke, chief of the Major Case Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Alexis Celestin of the Narcotics and Firearms Bureau, prosecuted the case.
