Ludington Adult Day Teams With New Rochelle Nonprofits

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Sound Shore Medical Center’s Ludington Adult Day Program is now partnering with two local not-for-profits thanks to Mary Jo Jacobs, who is a candidate for Westchester County Legislature.

During an August visit to Ludington, Jacobs sought input from her potential constituents about their needs and concerns. In addition to their concern about emergency preparedness for seniors living alone and transportation to food pantries, the registrants mentioned a renewed need for materials to continue one of their cherished activities, sewing.

A group of registrants have several ongoing projects that include making hats for newborns in Sound Shore’s neonatal intensive care nursery, as well as creating patchwork quilts for area homeless shelters. Without material these creative outlets would be lost. With this knowledge, Jacobs reached out to Operation Prom and Family Services of Westchester’s The Sharing Shelf.

With the donation of dresses from Noel D’Allacco of Operation Prom, eight skirts already have been created and donated back to the community. In addition, the seamstresses at Ludington will be helping Deborah Blatt, the coordinator of The Sharing Shelf, mend clothing so no donation goes unused.

The new connections also produced an interest from Victoria Romero, who is a friend of D’Allacco and an area educator. When she learned the ladies at Ludington are avid knitters, she joined D’Allacco in providing a supply of yarn. Wanting to connect her students with themindividuals who participate at Ludington, discussions are now underway about a possible Pen Pal project with her students.
