Hospitals In New Rochelle, Mount Vernon To Be Run By Montefiore

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Montefiore Health System struck a $60 million deal to run he Sound Shore Health System, which includes Sound Shore Medical Center, the Schaffer Extended Care Center in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon Hospital according to News 12 Westchester.

Montefiore Health System has taken over the struggling Soundshore Health System.

The Westchester hospitals have long been in financial turmoil, with Sound Shore in bankruptcy and facing the prospect of closing, but a federal judge ruled that the takeover could move forward earlier this year, News 12 Westchester reported.

Montefiore has said it will continue to retain as much of Sound Shore's staff as possible, according to News 12 Westchester.
