PELHAM, N.Y. - Ossining resident and "Corn King" Pono Wong roasted the yellow vegetable at the Pelham Farmers Market on a recent afternoon. Wong travels to farmers markets throughout Westchester County and leads corn roasts in places including New Rochelle, Pleasantville and Tarrytown.
Community Markets organizes the Pelham Farmers Market. Frankie Rowland, marketing and advertising director, said that the company has done the corn roasts for at least five years.
"(We want) to attract people to the market, to give people the opportunity to taste fresh corn and how much different it tastes from what you buy in the grocery store," Rowland said.
Wong will hosts corn roasts at farmers markets on Friday in New Rochelle and Saturday in Ossining. He will also display his expertise on Aug. 6 in Pleasantville and Aug. 27 in Tarrytown.
