City officials are encouraging residents to sign up for emergency alerts through the New Ro Alert messaging system, which is a quick way to be notified about emergencies that could affect local homes and workplaces.

On Sept. 21, the city's Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center is to host the NY Citizen Preparedness Training program, officials said.

Participants in the 1 p.m. program will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, according to the officials, who specifically cited such precautions as developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies.

Space in the program is limited and pre-registration is requested. For more information, call Debbie McLeroy 914-235-6463.
