NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Internationally acclaimed tango dancers Antonio “Junior” Cervila and Guadalupe Garcia will perform at Alvin & Friends Restaurant in New Rochelle on Friday as part of Tango Night, a monthly event sponsored by the Mayte Vicens Dance Theater.
Tango Night regulars enjoy an open-level lesson taught by Mayte Vicens and a “milonga,” an opportunity to dance with partners old and new.
The highlight of the evening will be the performance by Cervila, who has been recognized for his creative tango stylings and his intricate footwork, as well as his dance versatility. He has worked as a choreographic assistant to tango legend Juan Carlos Copes, and his performances have been seen worldwide on Argentinian television; on Broadway in “Tango Argentino"; on tour, most notably with Julio Iglesias; and on screen in “Tango," nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign film in 1999.
Vicens, a renowned dancer herself, will also dance on Friday night although her performance will be flamenco.
The dance lesson starts at 7:30 p.m., with open dancing from 8:30 p.m. until midnight, with performances scheduled for 10 p.m.
Admission is $20 in advance, $25 at the door with a one-drink minimum. Reserve your spot at 347-989-4145 by 4 p.m. Friday for advance pricing. Alvin & Friends Restaurant is at 14 Memorial Highway.
